The Trotter’s Traders Group, trading as Trotter’s Traders and Yabba Dabba Doo’s, was established in 2008 by Douglas Wadham.
At the age of just twenty one years old Dougie, who was born and raised in Grimsby, ran an ‘everything 50p’ stall on his local market. His father helped him out in business by cycling to work on his pushbike, with carrier bags full of stock items to sell on to the staff in the factory where he worked. It was from these beginnings that he learned his trade.
As a fan of the famous BBC sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’ Dougie felt an affinity with Derek “Del Boy” Trotter and this became the inspiration behind the name of his business when, in June 2008, the first of his ‘Trotter’s Traders’ discount stores was opened in Wilton Road, Humberston.
Just three months later, the second Trotter’s Traders store was opened on the outskirts of market town Louth in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire.
Following the success of the two stores, the Grimsby stock warehouse was purchased in 2010 and the Louth branch was expanded in 2013 with the addition of a new warehouse and further sales space.
In early 2016 Trotter’s Traders doubled their number of stores with a takeover of two ‘Yabba Dabba Doo’s’ store branches in the Lincolnshire seaside towns of Mablethorpe and Ingoldmells, Skegness, as well as a standalone warehouse based in Skegness.
Following Trotter’s Traders fifth store opening in Scunthorpe in December 2016, there are plans for this to become the flagship store and the main base of operations for the warehousing and wholesaling facilities in early 2017.
Open 7 days a week, to both the public and trade customers, Trotter’s Traders continue to be one of the most successful independent discount traders in the Lincolnshire area. With a strong team behind him, Dougie plans to grow the business further with exciting new opportunities in the pipeline for the future of the Trotter’s Traders Group.
